HELP!!!
Ihave been trying different things but Ijust can't get over the smell! Istarted with unjury and yesterday purchased Isopure...it alllll stinks!
What do I do? Idon't want to dread it....
Does anyone know if they make some sort protein shot? Quick and easy...I just can't stomach these shakes...I know sometimes you just gotta deal with things but if there is anything else Ican possibly due I would be GRATEFULfor that information!

I felt like that right after my surgery too. I put the shakes in a to go coffee cup that had a small opening in the lid. It really helped because I couldn't smell them and the cups only allowed a small sip at a time. I am 2 weeks and 1day out and finally feel like I can smell things for what they are (ie shampoo, etc)!
Also, I drink Premier Protein Drinks from Costcos - 30 grams of protein and they taste okay. I can't stomach Carnation drinks because they taste way too sweet.

I can totally relate! My first two weeks post-op were a real struggle. ALL of the samples I ordered were DREADFUL!! Even the ones I liked pre-op, weren't going down so well. I ended up buying a case of Premier Nutrition Protein Shakes from Costco, and those are the only ones I can do. The down side of them is that they are 11 oz, pre made shakes. They take me a little longer to drink because of the volume, but they taste pretty good (like chocolate milk).

There are a gazillion and two protein powders out there. Some of them do smell(I still can't do Unjury for that very reason and I'm three years out). It takes a while but you have to find YOURprotein powder. When you do, you'll know it.
In the meantime, stay away from storebought protein shots. They are collagen protein and we don't absorb that well. Making a shot is tricky. That's a lot of protein to hit your pouch at one time and it could make you feel sick, make your pouch hurt or just generally make you wish you were never born.
Here's some information that might help.
1. Visit www.vitalady.com. She sells individual sized protein samples so you can try before you buy.
2. GNC lets you return protein powder if you don't like it, so consider buying yours there as well. I think they will also sell you a sample.
3. Try out some shake recipes. Here's
the current one on Bariatric Foodie. Adding low-cal/no-cal things to your shake can mask the smell (and sometimes a less than favorable taste) of a protein powder. I never drink protein just straight up with liquid. I ALWAYS add something. My first concoction just added a bit of instant coffee. That helped tremendously.
4. Also,
Eggfacehas a gamillion shake recipes too.
5. Use a sports bottle to drink your shakes. Takes some of the smell away.

You should be happy today is your lucky day!!! LOL I go see my Nut today to be advanced! Yay!!! Well, I found a protein shot and my Nut said it was great, it has 27 grams of protein, I first discovered it when i was going to a weightloss clinic, they were selling them. I will text you when I get home to give you the name.

When you look at it, read the ingredients. If it is collagenized protein (or if that isin the first few ingredients)it is no good for us. Most protein shots are collagenized. And yes, even surgeon's offices give out this crap.So check for yourself and post to let us know. Thanks!

Try putting yogurt in it. That helped a ton.
Also, go to GNCand get a blender bottle. It has a lid so you can't smell that CRAP.
I think the Syntrax stuff smells like DUST!
The chocolate one I got at GHNC- black bottle w/ silver lid. Is pretty good. I put that in my yogurt this morning.

if you like hot cocoa-- i use MAX protein mixed with ho****er and a splash of vanilla coffee creamer...or you could add a little SF cocoa mix if you want to dr it up more. but honestly, it tastes great, and smells more along the lines of nestle mix.. I love the warm cocoa !
*i had a problem with smells at first and i love this one for that reason!i hate stinky protein !

My nutritionist suggested a protein shot called Whey Up. She said you can get them at GNCor vitamin shop. My husband likes the pure protein drinks. The strawberry actually smells pretty good.
I have a problem with smells too, it helps me to not breath when I am takingmy firstdrink. Once I taste it and know it doesn't taste awful then it is easierfor me todrink it. It's all a mind game

Go to the Diet and Nutrition Forum and look up both Liquid Proteins and Protein Drinks. I noted that some of the products listed are actually powders ( esp Syntrax), but there are user review of the products and most give carb, protein, and cal figures as well as costs. Granted, what one person says tastes fantastic, another may think is horrible. But you have a fairly safe bet when most of the reviewers agree. You will note that the major advantage with the powders is the cost.
In my estimation, Syntrax makes the best tasting powders. You can look up most of the supplements at www.netrition.com and look over the nuritional labels there. I've been buying most of my stuff from them for 10 years but www.vitalady.com is a longtime member here and she only stocks products that she recommends.
The Diet and Nurtition Forum is not run like a discussion and has a lot of useful info.
